Hello Directors and Friends!
Welcome to the 63rd Annual Central California Band Review! On this page, you will find all the necessary information for the Central California Band Review in Merced on November 11th, 2023. We are thrilled that you are joining us! Parade Band Instructions: Directors and Staff: Director Check in is located in front of the gymnasium. We will use the approved spiel sheet for each band according to NCBA rules. If your score is already on file with NCBA you DO NOT need to bring extra copies. If you have not submitted your score please bring 2 copies for the judges. Coffee and pastries will be provided in the director’s lounge. Lunch and snacks will also be provided for you throughout the day in the Director’s Lounge. The Directors’ Lounge will be held in the cafeteria across for the gymnasium. You may bring your instructors with you, but please do not bring in any students. *Parade Directors: The Golden Valley campus will be open at 7:00 AM. for early parade and jazz arrivals and be closed at 5 PM. Classifications are determined by NCBA new classifications. Performance times are determined by postmark. You may warm up in the bus parking lot or in the adjoining park. The campus will be a silent zone . The Staging Zone is the school parking lot and we have added 5 extra minutes to get you to the formation zone. The Formation Zone is at the corner of Childs Ave and Parsons Ave. All bands will travel in single file from the parking lot to the formation area on Parsons Ave adjacent to the percussion competition zone. Please refrain from playing while moving to the formation zone. You must leave the Formation zone at or before your parade step off time. Please note that percussion competition will be immediately after the parade competition on Parsons Ave. *For Parents and Students: Boys dressing rooms will be in the boys locker room and girls dressing room will be the girls locker room on the opposite side of the gym. Signs will be posted. The parade competition will begin at 9:45 a.m. Jazz competition will begin at 8:00 AM. Please encourage your students to come back and listen to either parade bands or jazz ensembles after they have finished performing. The parade will end at 1:30 p.m. and jazz will end at 3:05 p.m. We will have concessions and merchandise available throughout the day for students and parents. Please encourage your students to eat at our concessions! They will accept cash and debit/credit cards. We also will have CCBR programs and CCBR t-shirts for sale. Gottschalk Music Center will have a display set up near the gym in case you have any emergency repairs or would like to browse new gear. *Parade and Jazz Director’s Meetings and Awards: Score sheets will be handed out in the Director’s Lounge (cafeteria) at 2 PM for Middle School Awards and at 3:45 for High School Awards. Middle School Awards will be held at the GV Stadium at 2:15 PM. High School Awards will be at 4:15 PM. All bands should sit in the home side stadium stands. Middle School Drum Majors, Guard reps, percussion reps, and jazz reps report to the stadium at 1:45 in full uniform. High School Drum Majors, Guard reps, percussion reps, and jazz reps report to the stadium at 4:00 in full uniform. Each school is allowed 1 person to represent each caption during the awards ceremony. Head gear must be worn during awards for all marching units. *Jazz Directors: Please bring two copies of your scores for the judges. We will provide the following in the jazz area: PA with solo mics, Yamaha Grand Piano, Gretsch Catalina Maple kit with Zildjian K cymbals (ride, crash/ride, crash, and hi hats), Ampeg 410 Bass Amp, Roland Jazz Chorus Guitar Amp, and Yamaha vibes if needed – If you choose to use your own drum set/cymbals you must provide the entire setup, no mix matching pieces. If you choose to use your own equipment please consider that time in your 25 minute time slot. Please keep your students on stage at the end of their performance. Each band will be presented with an outstanding performance trophy for sections or soloists to be determined by the judges.
